Property prices fall by 8-15 per cent

KARACHI: Property prices, especially of vacant plots, have further declined by eight to 15 per cent during the last over two weeks as investors are still not ready to take risks in view of uncertain political and economic conditions. Real estate prices had plunged by 20 to 30 per cent in 2008 and these further came down by five to 15 per cent after Mumbai attacks and subsequent tension between the two countries. Pakistan Railways to build 12 commercial complexes all across country

Pakistan Railways has decided to construct 12 commercial complexes in parts of the country to overcome Rs54 billion losses. Spokesperson Shagufta Ansari of Pakistan Railways told ‘The News’ here Saturday that Minister for Railways Ghulam Ahmed Bilour is serious to cover the losses of railways for which he has decided to build 12 commercial complexes in various cities including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Kot Lakhput, Karachi, Sukkur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Peshawar and Khanewal. Whole world now affected by property downturn

Nowhere in the world will escape the property downturn with prices falling across the globe and some markets now reaching the bottom, according to the latest figures. The Knight Frank Global House Price Index, shows that annual global house price growth, excluding Dubai, slowed further to 3.8% in the third quarter of the year, down from 4.8% in Q2. Dubai, a new entrant to the index continues to show growth but analysts point out that the recent downturn in the emirate is not yet showing in the published figures. Lithuania, Canada, the UK and Norway saw the biggest falls in Q3, with prices falling by around 5% in just three months. Read the rest of this entry »

Islamabad: Capital’s housing shortage becoming worse
